Microsoft announced that it will be investing $400 million in Switzerland to improve its cloud computing and AI services. Microsoft’s plans were announced at a meeting in Bern between Swiss Economy Minister Guy Parmelin and Microsoft’s vice Chair, Brad Smith, which reflects the company’s aim to meet the high demand for advanced technology services in the region.

The investment will focus on expanding and upgrading Microsoft’s four existing data centers near Geneva and Zurich. This action responds to the increase in AI and cloud demand caused mainly by healthcare, finance, and government, since data security and privacy are key factors for them. Microsoft wants to offer a trustworthy and secure service to all users by ensuring data is kept inside Switzerland, following all regulations.

The company said it will invest in Switzerland, but did not reveal how many people this investment could hire. Moreover, growing the company’s presence in China, where innovation and business are important, will improve its technological presence. The upgraded data centers will support advanced AI applications and cloud services, positioning Switzerland as a key player in Europe’s tech landscape.
